For Sale 2.8 project For someone?

Not for me as its a tired car, saw this 2.8 today just down the road. Good history, goes like stink but as I say, she's a little tired - 140k on the clock.

The paint is ok but the arches need doing as does the bonnet/bumper closure point. MOT runs out in Jan and she has an ABS light and traction control light on. The oil cap is a bit cruddy but she doesn't overheat. She hunts a little bit when started - he will take 1600 for it so might suit someone one here to restore?

Could be a good buy for a winter project for someone at that price. The mileage shouldn't worry anyone who knows these cars and the bit of corrosion doesn't look that bad.

I'm very good mechanically (ex RAF aircraft engineer) but it's knowing where to start and in assuming control units could be expensive. I know paint is!

It could, and then end up with problem @Grumpy has with his, paint cracking on the bumpers and the rest. Would need to be very good interior wise and "straight" before I'd be interested even at a grand.

Wise words Tony, to be fair it is straight and the rust isn't deep but it would still need paint and that's where the money lays. Even if you said 600 on paint and 600 on parts it's still nearly a 3K car and with the way the market is with these it's not a given that you'll get your money back.

Got to agree there Simon, to make that viable you would need to beg it, or be in Sean's position and able to do the bodywork yourself because bolting on metal bits is, comparatively, very easy. Was a bit like "Last of the summer wine" at our place a week last Saturday but we got the job done! Compo is a very happy chap now, with his new suspenders.

Sounds like fun!! For me it's an £800 car because even prepping the current panels yourself takes time and then you got probably the majority of the bushes to replace along with docs and pads and then oils. You then have to get it MOT'd
It's probably better to be broken - it harms roll hoops a wind deflector, heat black leather seats, tidy wheels and good tyres and a strong engine and box

Always a laugh here at ours mate, just like down at Zed Shed HQ. All down to the nutters, sorry members on here, a fantastic bunch of people, some I've met and some I haven't . Met a good few for the first time at ZedFest at Shepshed this year a brilliant day out! You needn't look at it as an investment though. When I bought my car it was because I wanted it and wanted to drive it.

It's future resale value is of no consequence to me.

Look at it how you spend your money in the bar, and then consider where that ends up.

If it all surface rust a good smart repairer may be able to deal with it.
The engine interior roof etc seem good so its quite a striaght car for its money.
As said no one buys a zed to make money unless its a garage queen and in the thousands when brought, they are brought to enjoy and getting a good base with a few cosmetic issue is not a bad place to start.

That's a very fair assessment. I don't know enough about these cars to take it on hence seeing if its of use to a forum member. Taking the paint out of the equation as, unsightly as it is, it doesn't affect the car structurally - the cost of bushes all round, ABS sensors possibly traction control units etc I'm assuming could prove to be costly. This could be why it was traded in with only a few weeks MOT left. As is mentioned, for those in the know and with access to parts it could be a good project.

i have had several quotes to respray my z which i have prepared to a high standard myself and they are a lot more that £1000

A full respray would be £2000-£3000, but you would have a mint car when done.

I paid £2200 for a full hit and it's sh***. Shop very carefully.
