Gerday folks, Have just joined you good people and expect I will learn heaps. Recently acquired my first Z3, a 1997 1.9l bum buster. All good fun. A few rattles fixed and things tinkered with. Now, to sort out a stuck wing mirror that has a busted little plastic bolt and flops around like -------. Yair well, it drives well and sticks to the road which is good cos it needs to stay shiney side up.

Wow, you folks really do know how to welcome a bloke. Re situation with floppy wing mirrors --- success seems near. Wasted time by taking the interior door trim panel off before I realised I could get at the bolts that hold the doover to the door if I pulled the whole mirror housing to bits. There is a most excellent thread somewhere about doing this. I found the reason the mirror units are flopping around is that some low mongrel in the beastie's life has had them apart, apparently lost 1 bolt for each mirror unit and has used silicone to replace a bolt (both wing mirrors). Off to the bolt shop tomorrowday. Might even get around to unfreezing the mount from the other upper bit so it can rotate 90 degrees like it is supposed to. Good to be here. Keep your chins up and Zeding along.

I've just got these pivoting as they should, its easier to do if they are on the car, first I left them to soak in WD40, then used freeze spray, (this causes the alloy to contract and hopefully break the bond) just to make sure I then gave the joint a gentle hammering with a windy chisel

G'day Chrisr1949. Seems odd to me that anybody would take a Beemer back to the northern hemisphere from Oz. Is it much different to the local ones and does it have an accent?

Yeah, I contacted the guy who imported it and he's from the UK and spent 10 years in Sydney. He admitted that it had been a bad move as it was worth far more in Oz than it was here. It's a 2009 LCI facelift hot climate version. It's fitted with the updated N46TU motor, Europe versions got the weaker N43 which had been developed for better fuel economy and emissions but are known to blow up! Bmw didn't trust the N43 on varying fuel quality especially with regard to sulphur content so they didn't sell it outside of Europe. Its well spec'd with a sunroof, adaptive zenons, Led indicators, Bluetooth, sat nav, blah blah blah! I've even got a copy of it's last Rego Document and for benefit of all of us "stiff upper lip brigade" that's it's proper name! Anyhow, a big welcome to the forum and as you've already found you'll get all the help and advice that you need on here.
