Hello folks,
When I was twelve, my Dad (big car fan) took me to a BMW dealership just for something to do one weekend so we could have a look around. It was there I first fell in love with a Z3 - LOVED the chrome side vents, loved the fact this particular one's number plate was my initials and "Z3" (actually thought my Dad had bought me it). Decided I was having one there and then.
Jump forward to my mid-twenties, I'm driving a family bus having started a young fleet of children, which breaks down and gets sent off to the garage. Rather than watch his son not go to work due to having no car, my Dad lends me his little weekend toy - a "T" registered 2.8 Z3 in black with the gorgeous afore mentioned chrome side vents and a bright red leather interior. My first drive of a Z3 - now I definitely HAVE to have one.
Fast forward again to last summer and there I am at 32, having just moved house and had another baby. Day job issues a works van, missus' daily driver is a Fiat Panda and I drive a jacked-up Jeep which she hates. Made some money on the house and the Jeep is going wrong, so in it goes for part-ex against a bigger family vehicle (Jeep Renegade) for her, the three kids and the dog. Obviously, I'm not driving a Panda at weekends, so I spend a few days cruising the net looking for inspiration. "BMW Z3 1.9 in silver with black and red two tone leather interior, various sporty bits, FSH, 12 months MOT and 121000 miles. £1000.". A grand. One. What? Surely that's a misprint? "Hi mate, seen your car online?", "Oh, the Z3? Yes mate. Put it up for a grand so it doesn't charge me on Autotrader, but that's what I want.".
And that was the day Babs came home from Batley to Burnley, and I haven't stopped smiling since. Big dreams of making her wide-body, red roof, V8 engine etc. but first things first - last weekend saw me add those chrome side vents
