Yikes what have I got into!

Anyway, here it (she) is a 1998 M Roadster with 22k miles. It was a totally spontaneous decision which are sometimes the best. But as a guy with zero experience with cars like this I'm just a little worried that this will be a pain in the arse. But actually more excited for the fun. Anyway, so far so good.

Figure I need someone with experience to do a once over and whatever tuning should be done. Since I'm ripe for the taking a good referral to an honest BMW/German car garage would be fantastic in getting the car and me sorted. I'll be in the Boston to Portland Maine corridor.

Hello and welcome to the forum, that's a seriously special find you have there with just 22k miles on her. I can't believe you will have any serious issues with your car. I would check all the rubber bits, bushes, etc as these seem to deteriorate over time, whether they are used or not.

Hi Xander welcome from Oxfordshire. I take it’s a S52 variant? Worth as they say checking and replacing bushes. Also worth keeping an eye on the trunk floor spot welds are intact.

Wish there was in interesting back story that I knew about. But, I honestly don't know much about the car outside of the obvious fact that it was well cared and little used. This purchase was really a leap of faith for myself into the modern classic car world. I simply bought it from a dealer. The dealer and I even joked about how I didn't know what the heck I was doing. But he was very kind and gave me some advice on how to approach other purchases - if I end up getting the car bug.

To be honest, I had my eyes set on a coupe but when I checked one out I basically decided that the price to value proposition was a bit skewed. I still may try and get a coupe, but this is a good for me for now.

I'd be curious to hear how the market is for these in the UK?

Yes, it's the s52 and the trunk floor welds are in perfect condition.

We don’t have the S52 in the ///M they were the S50 and the later S54 as you have over there. Regardless M prices are good over here. Worth the effort to keep in tip top condition and enjoy it. Smiles per mile as we say over here.
