A while ago I used a bmw website. Can't remember if it was sopers or syntner or somebody else. But it was basically an online shop/catalogue for bmw parts. (Actual parts not stickers and hats)

I think I got the link here on zroadsters but can't find it.

Anyone know where it is? Post up the link?

Thanks

OK. Found it.

Reason I wanted it is because looking round on the bay and other places there's lots of brand new OEM parts for sale and some of the sellers don't have stock. They just wait for somebody to BuyNow then the seller buys it from sytner and sells on with a markup.

That goes especially for older cars where the car owner doesn't bother checking with the main dealer for a price and just buys off the bay thinking it'll be cheaper.

Lots of parts are expensive but it's always worth checking before buying elsewhere because some parts really are cheaper from bmw. Use that website rather than ringing up the local dealer wasting their time on the phone.

It’s a great resource for finding out what’s still available, as for pricing I can’t understand how a rear diff cover with the diff bush is only a few pounds more expensive than buying the individual bush for a 3.0 Z3🤷‍♂️

I've ordered some stuff from here on a couple of occasions before as they were showing availability for parts that my local dealer couldn't source for me.

I eventually had my orders cancelled as the parts were NLA from BMW - I don't think the process they use for checking availability of parts is entirely accurate. Just something to be aware of...

The cover will be original stock from when the Z3s were built. They ran out of diff bushes, and had to have them remanufactured - at immense cost.

I bought one for £27.80 in 2011 and the same item cost £188 in 2020. According to the Stevenage website, the same item is now £222 and the transfer case (including the bush) is £265.

If I'd know that it were only £40 extra, I'd have been tempted to buy the casing and avoid all the hassle of fitting a new bush into the old casing.

Just to show how daft the prices can be, the cover without the mounting is £400 :banghead:

I have followed the links above to try and source rear n/s and o/s quarter panels for my 1999 Z3 1.9 narrow body - but no luck. Any advice would be welcome.

I've heard that wide body rear quarter panels are easier to source. Would I be able to use these on my narrow body Z3 if I also change the rear bumper and use wheel spacers?

@Faheem may be able to advise on this?

Tony.

Hi, yes, just completed something similar, all you would need to achieve this is:
  • Pre-facelift widebody rear bumper - make sure it is a pre facelift and not a facelift as they are very similar
  • Pre-facelift widebody rear quarters (if you want to go new these are approx £500 each from the dealer)
  • Fuel filler surround from either a pre-facelift widebody or facelift. The surround from a facelift will likely have a cutout for the actuator but apart from this it is identical, I struggled to find a surround from a pre facelift widebody in good condition as the rubber tends to perish and split.
  • Widebody wheel arch liners - these are inexpensive new from the dealer if you did want to buy new (~£100)
As you say if you are keeping your existing wheels you'll need spacers to fill the arch gap as the trailing arms on the narrow body z3s are slightly shorter.

Hope this helps!

This is how mine looks after the conversion
