Hi all

So, on the way to get alignment done after lots of suspension work (was WAY out but drives beautifully now ...) and EML came on

This has been traced to badly cracked / perished air intake boot. Boot has resonator branch as per photo.

I have bodged it with gaffer tape 🤦 and lights out for now.

Please can anyone guide me with where to get a replacement boot?

Parts websites seem to be confused by the resonator branch ...

@Hopalong64 is it the boot or the black plastic branch that is knackered as they are 2 separate parts
 
This is the part number I used some time ago, it's listed for the 5 series I believe and supplier questioned fit.

BinJuice is correct.

The setup on my 2.2 is as with the 5 series of the time - RealOEM is incorrect (for my VIN anyhow).

The boot has to have a bottom circular connection to the air-box setup that includes the air filter housing in front of the left headlight. I've had to return other linked hoses/connecters to a dealer before because they had interpolated part nos. based on the RealOEM layout.

So be warned - it may depend on year of manufacture.

As for the dash light (you mean engine control light?)

My replacing a cracked boot didn't stop error codes occuring: the system thinks it's a problem with the MAF - it probably isn't - more likely a general air leak in the intake setup somewhere that eventually trips the fuel bank sensors into thinking that the engine is running lean.

I still haven't rectified the problem. Will shortly be reconditioning the DISA valve to see if a new gasket & kit helps - then after that a smoke test. It's not rocket science - just a process of elimination for an engine that's a quarter of a century old 😏
 
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a small vacuum cap on the rear of the engine that had split. It’s a really easy one to check and was only a couple of quid from the local main dealer for a replacement part.

I've looked at that - but can't quite see where it is - any specifics on that one ?
 
Yeah, its on the back of the engine bock, at the top. You can just about see it from the dip stick side. I've tried to arrow it on these photos.

You can see the part and the splits and the last is the BMW part number
