Rolling back nearly 2 years ago, I made the trip to collect my Z3 from a dealer 20miles from home. It was my first convertible experience. In typical fashion the weather decided on monsoon as the background to the journey.

In those 23 months I have had an awesome driving experience. Driving in the rain, driving in minus temperatures, driving at night looking up at the stars, driving in convoys of 15 other zeds, just simply driving to the shops. Every time with the biggest smile on my face. That which is affectionately referred to as DTS (dry teeth syndrome).

She was never a minter, but she was mine. I washed her, stroked her gentles sweeping curves, eyed her from the window while she was on the drive.

Things move on, and for some time I've been itching for something with some more oooomph. The initial draw to an M was strong, but I wanted something I could drive all year, all weathers and not be worried about ending up facing the wrong way in someones garden. After much consideration I decided on the Z4 with a big engine.

So in preparation I start taking off the shiny trinkets and coveted items from the options list trawled from many hours on eBay and various forums. Finally it was due it's MOT, one last chance for her to shine and make me smile! Now like other things in my life, that didn't quite go to plan and she did her best to spit in my eye and act like a jilted lover.

Now she will have to head up to my mates house in Cheshire to bide her time till he tames her anger, and gets her ship shape and ready for the road again. There is a good chance she may want to move in with him permanently; but that is the fickle nature of love.

So come this next weekend, I shall be without the car which I have loved more than any other, but only so that I can follow my heart with a younger model.

This I have noticed since being a Z owner...when selling their beloved cars the items that made their car individual and different in some respects to the others, are taken off and sold seperatly...even manuals are not given with the car.

This, I'm guessing, is why there is a scarcity of Hardtop Rear fixings because the Hardtop is sold seperatly and the fixings are left on the sold car and perhaps the new owner is un-aware of the items fixed to his or her car. Surely there must have been as many fixings made as Hardtops.

Not that I am decrying this practice as I have benefited from it ;) .....it just seems a bit odd.

Rod

PS Look forward to seeing photos of Gazs new beloved :x

I would like to point out I was sober when I typed that. Really havent had a car which has made such an impact on me!

@Rod. It's purely a financial thing. I spent around £2.5k on bits and the reality is she really is only worth about £2k in her current failed MOT condition. That said, if leaving the bits on would equate to an increase in sale price to say around £4k I would include them. Sad fact is that not everyone appreciates a modified car...

Yes Gaz, fully appricate what you're saying...2.5 grands worth of bits is a huge amount and well worth the effort to retrieve some of the cash, especially off a poorly Z3....hopefully she will thunder down the roads again after a little (or lot, as it sounds) of TLC......and MOT of course.

No doubt a list will be appearing soon of items as you're changing to a Z4??

Cheers
Rod

Various bit's have appeared in the for sale section already. Everything offered here for Zorg members first!

I have OEM Wind Deflector & 6cyl Simota induction kit in the for sale section and a set of facelift heated seat switches & an OEM Business CD head unit on eBay.

More to come once I get 5 minutes...

I know the feeling well Gary, when I sold my 1.9 Z3, it was the best car I had ever owned at the time, but once in my present car I knew I was in love again, although another Z3, it is a younger model. :D

Have you and Kevan done the deal or is Kevan still trying to tempt you by putting on a special number plate? :D

Great write up Gaz - it's always a sad moment to say goodbye to a car that has provided so many good memories. I think you'll be very pleased with the Z4, especially if you've got your hands on Kevans 3.0 :coolsteer)
