Bilstein B12 rear bump stop confusion ...

So I am trying to fit Bilstein b12 kit to rear ...

I have removed original shock and spring

The photo shows the new bumps stops I received from BMW but I cannot fathom how they fit ...

chat gpt (my new friend!) tells me that you shouldn't see the orange bit when installed, but they came fitted with black outer dust sleeve as per lower item

if I put the bump stop inside the black dust sleeve so it's not visible when installed, I can't get it to sit in the groove on the black dust sleeve...

help please ....

You could of made it work with what you had but the BMW sleeve design is much better.

I just did that to my wife's Honda CRV, those are nice shocks, my Z is next!
 
Initial impression is firm but fun. Let's see after the wishbones, drop links etc have been done later in the week 🤞

Please can I revisit this with the gurus on here ...

I have refitted the rear shocks using the original black dust cover / sleeve.

The only thing inside the sleeve is the circled black rubber and washer. i.e NO orange bump stop.

Is this correct? Internet searches are seemingly contradictory and driving me mad....

Car seems to drive ok and doesn't crash over bumps but i'm worrying...

I'd appreciate the thoughts of thos who know !

Yes that’s correct. The inside of the dust cover at the top has a metal ring which is the most important item. What makes you doubt this ?

Thanks Lee - its just that some web sites show a Bilstein branded blue dust cover that also has a version of the orange foamy (technical term ...) BMW bump stoppy bit (More technical terms!)...
 
You can use what ever, just as long as you have a large metal washer either side of the top mount to stop it pulling through you’ll be ok.
 
Thx Lee - maybe you can have a quick look later in the year if / when I come to get the rear bushes etc done. Front Myle HD kit is being installed by my local mechanic today...

Fixed price. £495.

We drop the whole rear axle out. Replace both beam bushes and press in new rubber bushes. To get to this stage we also sort the exhaust system with new bolts as they’re mostly rotten at this age, that takes longer than the rear axle work. Sometimes we have to make new brake lines aswell. For this reason we like people to make a visit before so we can check the condition of everything.

Thanks Lee- will be later on - my man maths is struggling with the boss otherwise ... esp as i seem to have bought a motorbike yesterday :hellsangels:!!
