Good timing or what?

A couple of days before we went on holiday the traction cable broke on my self-propelled rotary mower. That was a job for this week too.

The cable just pulls a roller to apply tension to the Vee belt driven off the bottom of the crankshaft.
Anyway after this afternoon's effort I consider a success.

I see what you did there... myself-propelled... I have a myself propelled too,, hard work in the rainy season here. By the time you've finished, you have to go back to the start and do it again. This lasts for a couple of months, then the grass doesn't grow at all for the rest of the year. So I tolerate myself propelled mower, for the time being anyway.

A previous job I had involved a ride-on mower that shed its drive belt once. Bu**er of a job to sort that out, not helped by not knowing how it fitted to start with. Quite easy to get things wrong.

My next will be a ride-on, I,m too old to be pushing a mower, thing is would it be petrol hydro-static or electric, Electric appeals but they don't seen to be getting much traction in the marketplace just yet and not much in the way of honest reviews for electric ride-on type.

A bit about reviews, for ride on mower's..

I always drill down through the reviews to past those that blow smoke, you know the ones ?, those that are stickied to the top.. And what do I read,

It did well with my trees, no problem
and

Works well with topiary

I have to think that they are using it wrong and may void a warranty or the review is for a completely different product, maybe a completely different brand...But I guess you could use it on trees with a sufficient run up, and on its highest cut setting....

And did you know, "heads up" hidden in the small print is a mention that 5+5 year warranty is not ten years, Its five for the engine and five for the chassis, and they run concurrently...I,m no mathematician by any means, but I think I,m right in reasoning it's a 5 years warranty .. The natural progression of warranties like that are, your new car has 5 + 20 year warranty, what bit is warrantied for twenty years is hidden in the fine print, my guess it would be an ash tray...

Well anyway, I did get a new mower after the old one exploded. A bit daunting to start with, and the warning plate worried me a bit. So I read the instructions in the same way most men don't, then fearlessly set of to mow the lawns, and immediately ran over my own mailbox. . Undaunted I then drove over my wife's garden doing what can only be described as declaring war.. On the bright side though, the council berm is much easier to cut without a mailbox in the way, and the wife's garden is properly mulched ready for the dry season.

Yeah its pretty, but when I ran over the mailbox, it tore the sticker off the front, that I then ran over and shredded to bits. So, as I make decals on the side, Ill make a new one , maybe a ///M sticker. OK, I,ll get my coat....

Sorry to have reminded you Tony, mowing is a lot more fun in a bumper car, get one ... but actually might go with Ferrari decal maybe because it looks like one, or even Tesla because its electric. No, probably best to have just a tally of things I have mowed unintentionally...

Electric mowers, yes..Another saving on top of fuel , oil, and associated maintenance, is pet food. Because we havn't seen our bloody stupid cat since the day we got it.
