I’m after a replacement radiator expansion hose, please. Has anyone got this that I could have, please? Part/s needed are indicated in red on these two photos.

Hi Dawn i have this same pipe on my Orinoco and its already been repaired.
I have a spare which has also been repaired.

Yours is the same patched up as the plastic part of the pipes are getting very brittle these days and prone to splitting so finding a good condition second hand one may not be that easy but you never know as they will be out there.

Stephen.

Thanks for your advice, Stephen. The hose/s on my car are ok and not leaking but my Z is in the workshop having major surgery and the guy whose business it is spotted the rubber, plastic, rubber, plastic work and wants to replace it to try to prevent my car needing more work in the not so distant future.

I’m looking on AutoDoc, too. There looks to be one at about £33 plus delivery. Delivery is a wait, though.

If not burst then the wait not too much of an issue.
A new one would certainly be the best solution to have some guarantees on longevity.

Agree with you, Stephen. It looks simple to change. Am I right?

Yes just need to be careful at radiator end that you dont snap the bit off the radiator the pipe slides onto.

+1 on using Autodoc, if you can stand the 8-10 day wait, otherwise brilliant site

Find the part number on realOEM and then put straight into Autodoc, and stick to the brands you know, Gates (best pick imo) , Mahle, Febi etc

Autodoc is also a little cheaper if you use their mobile app, I am not sure why...

This is what I have in my basket to order (eventually) for my 1998 2.8 TU
I would still check the part number on RealOEM just to be safe
This is the part number on that the linked hose is: 11531436122

Me and I am sure many others trust Gates as a very reliable and reputable brand, you could definitely get one for cheaper but I don’t need the worry of poor quality!

@ktnez99 I also need the same pipe for my 3.0 and inquired with my local BMW today. Still available for £49, which I’ll prob get for £45 ish after small discount cos I’m pally with them.

The Gates one from Autodoc would be £36 inc. delivery. I’m happy to pay £9 for the original BMW item, plus I’ll have it the next day.

10 mm copper pipe works as well. Bend to any shape. Ours has been in place for 7 years now. Next door was a plumber so £0. :)

Did exactly this on my wife’s 3.0 years ago as it’s her daily and it snapped when removing the air box always meant to replace it with the original but little point as it works properly and a lot stronger!

Update: my car was en route to the MOT centre this afternoon when the radiator blew!
The top hose r/h side blew off and has taken the plastic moulding with it. The radiator wasn’t very old, either.
Any ideas as to why this has happened?

My Z has been having major surgery and was on the homeward stretch when “Pop!” the radiator top hose blew off as it stood idling after only an eight miles journey.
The radiator was virtually new and I’m wondering what could have caused this.
My Z has been off the road for a very long time - can say how long or @Shelly will know and I’d have to … 🤣 - so could this long park-up have contributed?
