Hi there

I have a 2001 Z3 3.0. Can anyone suggest an insurance company in the UK. My current premium has gone up by over £65 with my current company for fully comp, agreed value and restricted mileage.

Thank you

Always use the compare sites to see what's out there, the agreed value is only usually dealt with by specialists companies so don't come up on the compare sites but limited mileage is. Always contract your existing insurer and complain about the increase, they usually re-quote just to keep you.

Pointless exercise TBH. Every person has a different 'risk' so it makes no difference if 'Joe Bloggs' got a cheap premium from a particular broker.
The premiums are based on the driver(s) mostly these days, not the vehicle. And since all premiums are calculated by computers with complex algorithms, even the brokers don't know why premiums are what they are.

£65 increase doesn't sound a lot to me, but give them a hard time and they usually reduce it.

Insurance comparison sites are great to gauge what you should be paying. Agreed values are bit of a waste of time on a 'normal' road vehicle IMO.

Restricting mileage too much can actually increase your premium. The sweet spot is 3-5k miles apparently.

Thanks for those comments. I appreciate the comparison site, based on driver, going back to the broker for a better deal, views, but my own requirements are quite specific. I don't want to get into discussions about my own requirements here, but for context I can say that my Z3 is an extreamly low milesage car and market value in the event of a loss would only return a fraction of it's value. The car is a summer only car and covers less than 2000 miles a year. So the agreed value is a bit of a 'must have' for me. There are a few companuies that will insure the Z3 as a modern classic. Having said that all I am asking is what compaies have you guys had good experiences with?

Thanks

I use Howdens (A Plan) for my Z3, as it is very unusual. I do have an agreed value (£40k IIRC). I paid around £200 last year. 58 years old clean licence, good postcode, etc, etc.
However, someone else with exactly the same car as me didn't get a competitive price from them. Hence my comment about it not mattering which company

I find Howdens are okay and Chris Knott, but as above we are all different. Used to use Hastings Direct for the cars but price shot up recently, still cheap for my van though. But don't like them anymore, no personal touch just phone operators miles away that don't seem to understand.

Used Aviva for about 5 years for the e89, its only gone up by about £30 in that time, current cost was £234 FC and with the good lady added on but I am awaiting this years quote in a month or two so who knows.

I’ve used Classicline and Howdens recently. I’ve not had a claim, so no idea how good or bad they are to deal with. Interestingly, the actual policy for both was with KGM. I was in a situation last year where I was getting two different quotes from brokers for the same cover from KGM. It does unfortunately help to shop around a lot. Also agree that the limited mileage is not always helpful. A family friend who was not driving much had lowered their mileage limit to 1000miles a year. Their circumstances changed and when they called up later to advise that the mileage was going to be exceeded, it turned out there was a saving to be had by raising the annual limit to 5k.

Hi there

I have just got a great quote from Howden (KGM), very competitive and with all the cover I was after. Plus it is considerable better than the quote from my current insurer. Thank you for all the help!

Same as Pond at £200 quid👍 58, Manchester postcode, clean licence.
Looking at Classic car sales they've estimated my Z3 at around the 14k mark which I feels a bit ambitious.
However when renewal comes im going to dabble on that valuation and see what comes

Chris Knott were brilliant when I used them, saved loads, even on house insurance too ~ mention ZRoadster.org when getting a quote

I also use Howdens (was A-Plan) ~ if you are a BMWCC member, again mention it for discounts

I have had many quotes from them. Always, always very very expensive. Our household generally pays extremely low insurance premiums (no idea why TBH), even my 20 year old daughter pays less than half of her average peers.
Chris Knott, however, seem to think we are a high risk as their quotes have always been laughable. I never contact them anymore. No point.

Hope its to not late i use Lancaster insurance 250 pounds but I do have limited mileage and they take any age of car an person fully comp.

Hi, yes I did speak to Lancaster and I would have gone with them if Howden had not met my requirements so well.

If you haven't already, please do give us a try. Our office number is 01455 639 000, please do mention zroadster.org at the time of the quote. Many thanks, ClassicLine.

Is that ALL????? Both my main cars have gone up by over £200 (1998 Z3 isn't insured as classic), I'm expecting the classic Triumphs to go up as well, and it's a matter of quote after quote to get a decent deal. Best deal - believe it or not - on my main car, a Freelander was Tesco. All the other companies were over £700, Tesco were £351.

Quick update, my insurance dropped to £200 for 2026, happy days that will buy me a few litres of petrol😆
