What have you bought for your Zed this week?

So you can chuck the ear plugs now? ;)

Tony.

Good news mate.

Tony.

Show me a picture or two Jose, I may have a cunning plan.

Tony.

Hi Tony.

I had a bit of a busy morning, but here are some pics:

P.S. - Looking at the photos made me realise I need to thoroughly clean the inside of the car. ;)

How does it sound Jose?
It does sound much better than the Pioneer head unit I had there before.

I suppose a change to the pre-amp and newer speakers would make the Pioneer sound better, but I like the originality of the CD43. Besides, when driving above 60 MPH I can't barely hear the ration anyway… It's just for looks. ;)

Those screw heads look as though they’re quite soft. Plan 1 try gently tapping a Torx bit into the head, or 2 drill the head off, then remove the rest of the screw withe Mole grips once the unit is removed.

Tony.

The heads look soft, but they are not. I tried to tap a slightly larger torx bit, but it went nowhere. So, I thought I would try a flat screw bit and indent the top and bottom, also no go.

The opening is so small that even with a long nose Mole grip I couldn't turn the screw. So, in the interest of science, I just went for violence. :p

I just hammered a fat screw bit against the buggers until the fascia started to come out, the used a couple of plastic trim removal bars to leverage the radio out. The screw gave away enough for the radio to come out, but it is clear the issue is that they had gone in at an angle.

With the radio out now (awkward position in the dash) I hope I will have more leverage and options to take the screws out.

@Mus Musculus - this + a tiny drop of superglue - wait 10 minutes - remove. Works every time for me.
I wish I had seen this before I went mental on the screws...

Anyway, with the radio out now I will try your suggestion. Thanks.

Note: It's likely I will glue my fingers to something… I always do when using superglue. =))

I've gone full hog on the radio:

And the little bastards are off, ready for the Dremel

Since I got to this point, I might as well replace the LEDs with some red ones...

My front right caliper was binding a little so as they are cheap I decided to replace them both. Good aftermarket ones, from eBay. Pads and disks were still good but got some new Big Red pad clips. Might have a crack at refurbing the old original ones at some point. My local charged me less than an hours labour to replace and bleed.
Yes I know the wheels need a clean:whistle:

I‘d have had those painted before fitting them. ;)

Tony.

Ah, didn't realise you were selling it mate.

Tony.
